Starting with a visit to the exhibition "Great Escapes" on Prisoners of War and POW camps at the National Archives, we were tasked to create a piece of work in any medium, that represented a- or our own "Great Escape", whether physically or mentally.
Although the original intention was to base this piece in a personal escape, it soon developed into a more general one: From a scene of a car's dashboard, with the road ahead, an air freshener hanging from the rearview mirrow and the reflection of what's left behind on it, to the actual conceptualisation of the air freshener's aromas to represent each of the nationalities talked about in the exhibition, because a certain fragrance can evoke memories and feelings: they can "take you home".
For those wondering about the SPAM air freshener, I made it as a joke for my teacher since our very first brief of the year was based on SPAM, but also because during WWII, it fed troops and civilians all over the world and it's remained popular since.
